Spring in Kaprun is the season when the valley and the high mountains can feel like two different worlds. Around Chalet an der Piste, meadows turn green, trees begin to blossom and the air becomes milder, while high above Kaprun the Kitzsteinhorn can still remain covered in snow.
From Chalet an der Piste, that contrast is part of the view itself. Look across a green spring valley towards the snowy Kitzsteinhorn and surrounding high peaks. On suitable days, spring can combine two experiences in one holiday: glacier skiing in the morning and walking, cycling or relaxing in the sunshine in Kaprun later in the day.
This is what makes spring in Zell am See-Kaprun different from a conventional late-season ski holiday. You are not surrounded by winter everywhere. Instead, the valley is already moving into spring while the glacier above still offers a high-Alpine snow experience when conditions and lift operations allow.

During spring, the lower slopes around Kaprun can already be green while the Kitzsteinhorn remains a high-Alpine world of snow. The Maiskogel winter season normally ends earlier than glacier operations, so late-season skiing moves up to the Kitzsteinhorn.
When glacier skiing is operating, you can still ski or snowboard high above Kaprun while enjoying spring conditions in the valley before and after your ski day. That seasonal contrast is especially visible from Chalet an der Piste.
Ski high, come home to spring
Spring skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn is not the same experience as a midwinter ski week. The high mountain keeps the snow, while lower Kaprun can already be mild, green and sunny.
A typical spring day can start with breakfast overlooking the valley, continue with skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn, and finish back in Kaprun where you may sit outside, go for a walk or simply enjoy the warmer afternoon.
For families and groups, that flexibility is valuable. Not everyone has to ski every day. Some guests can head to the glacier while others enjoy a quieter spring day in the valley, and everyone returns to the same spacious apartment in the evening.
